"We're not standing still"
We spoke to Dan Brownlie following the announcement of Atkinson, Rowe and Wilson all departing the club.
“The danger of having great sides; is that when players leave, retire or move away – it generates that feeling of loss. It’s the sad reality of football. In Dan, Michael and Brad, they’ve all delivered such memorable moments. Especially the latter two with the treble winning season. I selfishly hold a level of pride of the clear relationship they established with our supporters. It’s something we set to achieve, both through their quality on the pitch and their engagement off of it. Supporters only care about those they care about. Obviously, that intensity of relationship can also count against you in moments like this.”
“The reasons behind their leaving differ drastically – and the reassurance you can take is that they’re all measured and thoughtful. Whilst it may not appear much in way of compensation; they have all spoken of such genuine pride about representing our club. That culture is something we’re proud of and something our supporters contribute towards enormously… players talk – and the way a player leaves you can dictate what comes next. We know that those three men will be ambassadors and advocates of ours for future talent.“
“Thankfully, whilst Twitter gives you a window into the works of the club; it doesn’t showcase the untold. So, whilst it can appear one way traffic from the outside looking in, when the time comes; we plan on letting you all ‘in’ on the work that has been underway for quite some time. The players that have left have opened a door for someone new to show you as fans their value, quality and to then build relationships through performances. It’s going to be a great opportunity for some very lucky players.”
“The registration forms are yet to be made available by the league, and whilst verbal confirmation of players staying and joining has taken place – we will always work on on an official basis. There are varying reasons why clubs choose to announce players at this stage, some are contracted players, some work off verbal agreements, but I must admit, it seems to get earlier every year. What’s important to remember is that since becoming a community club, I’ve seen an almost unrecognisable change in the Club keeping supporters up to date with all the goings on; and that is something we’re proud to continue. We’re excited to let you in on it all.”
“To put it quite bluntly – we’re not standing still.”
